Dog Obedience Training - Puppy Socialization

Puppy socialization is a very important and often underestimated part of the dog obedience training process - consequently it is important to start as early as possible in your puppy's life. The reason why it is so important is that it will help to build your puppy's confidence around everyday things such as humans, cars, traffic, joggers, noise and other animals.

By following a strict socialization program you will dispel any unnatural fears that your puppy has around other dogs, people etc which will also help to stop any unnatural anxiety which could lead to your pooch biting out of fear. By introducing your puppy to a range of different experiences your puppy will be less fearful and have a well rounded and more balanced temperament. Below is a short list of the different things that you should introduce your puppy to.

1. People from all walks of life including women, men, elderly people and children. But not only people but people in different clothes, pushchairs and prams.
2. Introduce your puppy to people wearing hats, glasses, helmets, hoodies and even in uniforms and wearing masks.
3. Socialize your puppy with people walking, running, on skateboards, rollerblades and in cars.
4. Get your puppy used to different animals including cats, other dogs, guinea pigs, horses, rabbits even even tortoises. Make sure that you keep a close eye on your puppy so he doesn't get out f hand with any of these animals. Remember to only introduce your puppy to other animals when he has been fully vaccinated.
